The Process from Application to Enrollment

Complete the application forms

●There are 9 departments and 16 majors available at Tokyo Design Academy including Design, Comics, and Animation
 

Turn in your application

●Place your application forms in the designated envelope and bring them to TDA.
 

Screening/ Announcement of results

●Applicants are obliged to have an interview and take an efficiency test for the Japanese language ability when bringing in the application form. (Applicants with N2 or higher in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or 200 points or higher in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students are exempted from the efficiency test)
*An interview will be held by telephone for those applying directly from overseas.

●Selection will be made based on the contents of the application form, and the results of the interview and the efficiency test for Japanese language ability. Pass/fail results are given directly to the applicant (via telephone or another method).
 

Initial payment

●Successful applicants will be informed about the initial payment, which must be paid via bank transfer by the indicated date (approximately 2 weeks from receiving your passing result).
 

Second payment/ Enrollment information

●Information about the second payment, the enrollment ceremony, and how to purchase materials and textbooks will be sent out toward the end of February. Please make the second payment via bank transfer by the specified date.
 

Enrollment ceremony

●An enrollment ceremony will be held in the beginning of April.

* Students applying directly from overseas should consult with us via telephone or another method before applying regarding submitting forms, interviewing, etc.

Application Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years or older as of April 1, 2012, and meet the following conditions:

1.Completion of 12 or more years of formal education. *Please consult with us if you completed an 11-year program.

2.Must meet one of the following conditions:

  (a) At least 6 months continuous study with satisfactory grades and attendance at a Japanese Language school or other facility certified by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education.
  (b) Qualification of N1 or N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test administered by Japan Educational Exchanges and Services or the Japan Foundation.
  (c) A minimum grade of 200 points in listening comprehension, listening and reading comprehension, and reading comprehension on the Japan Student Services Organization’s Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students “Japanese as a Foreign Language” test.
  (d) Those who have had education for a full year or more in a school specified in Japan's School Education Act Article 1, excluding kindergarten.

3.Proof of financial support to cover tuition and living expenses while studying in Japan.

Application Process

Our application processes include Admission by Recommendation (School Recommendation, TDA Recommendation, and Self-Recommendation) and Regular Admission. The screening fees (20,000 JPY) is waived for recommended applicants.
